SLFA History
The FA was founded in 1979, the same year the island gained independence, and is headquartered in Castries, the nation's capital. It runs the St. Lucia men's and women's junior and senior national teams, as well as its domestic football competitions, which include both men's and women's professional leagues and youth championships.
Saint Lucia is one of the member nations of CONCACAF or The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football. It got the affiliation of CONCACAF in 1965. Saint Lucia Football also got the affiliation of FIFA in the year 1988. The FIFA Code of Saint Lucia is LCA. Football in Saint Lucia plays an important role in the sports- history of the country.
Football in Saint Lucia is one of the popular sports of the country. It is administered by St. Lucia Football Association. The headquarters of the football association is located at La-Clery, Castries, the capital city of the country. St Lucia Football Association(SLFA) governs the women's and men's senior and junior national teams in the country. This football association governs all kinds of national leagues and championships held in the country. Presently, Saint Lucian Football has been making their presence in the international arena. For example, in 2003, the women's national team made a significant attempt in qualifying for the 2003 Women's World Cup.
National Football Teams
The National teams of Saint Lucia is Saint Lucia National Football Team. Men's and Women's national teams are governed by the association(SLFA).
The national football team of Saint Lucia is a member nation of CONCACAF or The Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football.
Over the years, the national team has shown excellent performance against the other Caribbean countries. It has shown better performance in the recent years against other international teams. Both women's and men's national teams have participated in the qualifying round of the World Cup Football. For instance, the women's team made a significant attempt to qualify for the 2003 women's world Cup and men's team participated in 2006 Men's World Cup qualification tournament.
Football is a great motivator. Research has shown that playing sport aids in school attendance and academic improvement.
The SLFA is about more than just playing ability; our aim is to mould young men and women, as well as better footballers, through social and educational development.
